Designing of Audiometers Embedded Systems Design
Abstract
An audiometer is a device that can measure a person’s hearing ability, i.e. if the person’s hearing is normal or impaired in any way (various degrees of deafness). The measurement can then give an indication of what might have caused the impairment (noise, age etc.). Most people have had an ear test done at some point of their life, at school, their workplace, national service or their ENT doctor.
Statistics indicated that hearing loss is prevalent. Hearing loss can be prevented or minimized especially if detected early. The instruments used for the tests to determine hearing loss as the audiometer. These are very expensive as discussed earlier. Therefore, a low cost functional audiometer will boost and provide more people access to have hearing loss tests conducted and severe cases dealt with. There is therefore, the need to intensify efforts geared towards this low cost audiometer design.
