Abstract

Tachograph is a device that combines functions of clock and speedometer. It is used mainly to record driving and rest times for drivers and co-drivers of commercial vehicles. In addition to the vehicle speed, distant traveled and other system related parameters would also be recorded. Various Tachograph cards like, driver card, company card, workshop card are used to store the imperative data like driver personal information, company information. Moreover it facilitates functionality of downloading of stored   data to an external storage device like computer. At the end of the day we can easily take print out of data stored in the card with the help of serial printer attached to it. Tachograph itself shall be considered as the memory of the vehicle in which it is fitted, whilst driver card shall be considered as the memory of the activities performed by the driver.

This paper gives complete idea regarding the Tachograph, Need and characteristics of the Tachograph. Moreover explains the existing another technologies and their characteristics & mainly elaborates the complete architecture of Tachograph, Gives complete understanding of Rabbit processor board (main board) and Vehicle Data Interface Unit (Data Logger) with the help of block diagrams.
