Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV): Efficient Combination of Conventional Internal Combustion Engine Propulsion System with an Electric Propulsion System

Abhishek Shukla, Chaitanya Raju

Abstract

Hybrid electric vehicles are the most efficient vehicles and also rapidly growing traction in the global automotive market. Many OEM’s (Original Equipment Manufacturers) are working on new hybrid electric vehicles and electric vehicles. They mainly consist of Engine and Motor to produce torque and generator to regenerate power. This combination of two distant power sources, engine and electric motor will increase the efficiency of the vehicle. Hybrid electric vehicles will also reduce the use of gasoline and diesel fuel therefore eco- friendly. Mainly research in sophisticated engine, efficient motors, power electronics, high power density batteries, power train, exhaust systems are major areas in designing to increase overall efficiency of hybrid electric vehicles. Highly efficient motors and generators are used in vehicles to reduce the fuel consumption for transportation.
