Model Based Design of Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) Powertrain
Abstract
Hybrid electric vehicles are combination of internal combustion engine and electric motor to drive a vehicle. This combination will reduce growth greenhouse gases or air pollution and also an advantage to conserve fossil fuel reserves in the world. Model based design and simulation will be done in MATLAB/ SIMULINK® software. Model based design and simulation will help the development process and also cut the costs and time. At the same time engineers analyse the model based design to create the actual physical system like combustion engine, electric motor and generator as well the control theories for efficient control mechanism. By using Stateflow® the control logic is created to activate different cycles. The control logic will be changing modes like start mode, acceleration mode, cruise mode, braking mode and stop mode. Each mode will be activating physical models like engine, motor etc, output torque and speed of shaft is shown graphically. These modes will be as per timing and speed of the vehicle. Simulation process will be testing the model based design and control strategy. The graphical results will be showing the functionality of system as well as advantages in efficiency.
