Soil Reinforcement by Using Waste Fibers: A Review

Alok Sharma

Abstract

Lack of strength of any soil is due to poor condition of that soil which leads to deformability. Soil reinforcement is a technique to improve the engineering characteristic of soil thus increasing the strength of soil. Inclusion of Fibers in the soil for reinforcing it is one of the methods of soil reinforcement. Fibers are obtained from natural, synthetic and waste (nonhazardous type) Materials. Disposal of waste tire and waste plastic pose a major problem everywhere. These waste materials can be used as soil reinforcement. Keeping in view the environmental effects of waste materials literature review is undertaken on utilization of these materials in geotechnical applications.
